The Story of Toy Guns Dance Theatre

In the summer of 2013 an engineer, a business student, and an artist came together under very odd circumstances… with little in common apart from a dissatisfaction with their seemingly successful lives. Two unifying elements bonded this team together, each had suffered through a long distance relationship that ended badly and more importantly each had a transcendent experience with art. Growing up in Western Canada they were all strongly advised against pursuing a career in the arts. This advice was not misguided, statistically and culturally there is a major issue with the pursuit of art as a vocation. This story begins when three people stopped listening to reason and started listening to a much more powerful force.

"I don't know anything about dance,
but I loved it."

From our inception Toy Guns has been challenging the relationship between art and its audience. “I don’t know anything about dance but I loved it”. This sentiment has followed us through a multitude of projects from art installation to outdoor productions to summer Fringe tours to film work.

No Place Like Home

Toy Guns would like to thank the numerous companies and individuals who make what we do possible!! All types of art performance requires a community and we have felt so incredibly supported in Edmonton and across Canada over the past 11 years.
